Science in Action Through Play!
3rd Mar 2026
Primary 3 pupils set sail on a sea of creativity with their junk art boat races. As part of their pirate-themed learning, the children designed and built their own boats using recycled materials before putting them to the test in the water. Using nothing but their breath to power the sails, they explored how forces like pushes and air movement can make objects move.
The pupils also discussed how to carry out a fair test, making sure each boat had the same starting point, and sailed in the same amount of water, so they could compare results accurately. A fun-filled, hands on adventure that combined science, creativity, and fun!
